This year we went on a 14-day cruise to Norway and Iceland. We started with a visit to London. Then we traveled to Southampton England to board the Sapphire Princess cruise ship and sailed to Norway, with stops in Bergen, Flåm, Hellesylt, Geiranger, and Alesund. Then we sailed to Iceland, with stops in Akureyri, Isafjordur, Grundarfjordur, and Reykjavik. Then we sailed back to England.

Before going on our cruise to Norway and Iceland, we flew to London and stayed at the Montague Hotel, which is across the street from the British Museum. This video takes us on a walking tour past Trafalgar Square to the Westminster Pier for a boat ride on the River Thames.

During our stay in London, we visited the British Museum. Of interest to us are objects on display that have something to do with the Bible. Archeology confirms that places and events as described in the Bible are in fact based upon real history.

We checked out of our London hotel at 7AM and were picked up by a tour bus that took us to Southampton to go on a 14-day Norway and Iceland cruise. On the way to Southampton, we stopped to see Stonehenge, a pre-historic monument in southern England.

Our 14-day cruise to Norway and Iceland was on the cruise ship Sapphire Princess. This video describes the ship and all of the activities on board during our cruise, with scenes of leaving the port of Southampton.
The music for this scene is my jazz version of the song Remind Me, which was a hit in the early 2000s by the band Röyksopp, a Norwegian electronic synth-pop band from Tromsø, Troms, Norway. The song was recently made popular by the Geico Caveman at the airport commercial.

Bergen Norway - Bryggen & Scenic Cruise Excursion

Our first port that we visited on our cruise was the city of Bergen, the second largest city in Norway with a population of about 420,000. This video summarizes the history of Norway from how it came under Danish rule to when it gained independence from Sweden. The video also includes scenes from the Bryggen and Scenic Cruise Excursion, with a history of the Hanseatic League and a boat ride on one of the many fjords in the Bergen area.

Flåm Norway – Stegastein Viewing Platform – Train to Vatnahalsen

On this day we visited the small Norwegian village of Flam, located at the end of the Sognefjord. The Sognefjord is the longest fjord in Norway, stretching some 120 miles from the coast into the interior of Norway. In the morning, we took a bus to the Stegastein viewing platform for spectacular views of the fjord below. In the afternoon, we took the Flam Valley train to the Vatnahalsen hotel, with a stop along the way to see the Kjosfossen waterfall.

Hellesylt and Cruising the Geirangerfjord

On this day, we stopped in the small Norwegian village of Hellesylt to drop off passengers who have booked full day excursions out of Hellesylt. Then we sailed to Geiranger, the next town down the fjord where those passengers dropped off in Hellesylt meet back up with the ship. The cruise from Hellesylt to Geiranger was one of the most scenic portions of our cruise.

This video highlights the Eagles Bend viewing platform, with spectacular views from 1,700 feet above the Geirangerfjord. Then a visit to the Herdal Summerfarm to learn why Norwegian farmers took their animals up into the mountains during the summer and how they made Norwegian brown cheese.

Ålesund Norway and the Easy Ålesund Tour Excursion

Today we visit the Norwegain city of Alesund, which was the scene of a fire on January 23, 1904 that burned down almost the entire town. The city was rebuilt with stone, brick, and mortar in the Art Nouveau architectural style, which is what gives the town its characteristic to this day.

On this day we visited the small fishing village of Grundarfjordur Iceland. We took a boat ride to some of the islands in the fjord to see where Atlantic Puffins make their nests. The boat ride also gave us a look at strange rock formations. We also had a chance to try Sea urchins and Scallops fresh from the sea.

On this day we visited the port of Reykjavik. We took the Best of the Golden Circle shore excursion, which took us to the most popular tourist attractions in Iceland. Highlights include a stop to see the geyser Strokkur, Þingvellir National Park, and the Gullfoss waterfall. This video also features the Icelandic Horse and its unique characteristics that make it an ideal horse for the harsh Iceland weather and terrain.
