Juli called and set up an appointment for Sue to see an Oncologist this Friday. She will also have a PET Scan on Thursday, so that the Oncologist will have a base to go by in starting her treatment. The surgery to have her sentinel lymph nodes removed is scheduled for Friday, September 14, 2012, which is probably done as an outpatient. The surgery for her mastectomy is scheduled for Friday, September 21, 2012 at the St. Cloud Hospital.

The purpose of removing the sentinel lymph nodes first in a separate surgery is to determine whether the cancer has spread, which could require radiation treatment in addition to the chemotherapy. If radiation is required, then she would not have any reconstructive surgery at the time of her mastectomy surgery.

Sue also went to see her regular doctor at the Becker CentraCare Clinic to discuss her situation. She was happy to learn that her regular doctor knows and likes her Oncologist and her surgeon. He also knew about her plastic surgeon and had good things to say about all of the people she will be dealing with. Her regular doctor answered a number of questions, and assured her that he is available to help with any questions or pain issues.

After meeting with the doctor, we went to see a friend to see how she was doing after her breast cancer surgery. We took her out to eat at a restaurant and to talk. It is a comfort to talk to others who have gone through the same experience, and we appreciate all of the friends and family who are there to give Sue support.
